2019 Africa Cup of Nations set for June 21 to July 19

- 2019 Africa Cup of Nations has been shifted two weeks further over Ramadan

- Muslim faithfuls will be observing this year's fasting period from early May to June

- Islamic nations including Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt and Algeria will be taking part

2019 Africa Cup of Nations has been postponed to allow players recover fully from the holy month of Ramadan.

The tournament which has been slated to hold on June 15, to July 13, will now take place from June 21, to July 19.

Egypt were recently given the hosting rights after Cameroon pulled out and tournament director and ex-international Fadl made the announcement.

"The decision was taken following requests from Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria who want their players to have time to rest after Ramadan," he said.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has also confirmed the draws for the competition will held on 12 April.

The holy Ramadan period is when Muslim faithfuls abstain from food and water from sunrise to sunset, will commence in the beginning of May until the first week in June.

The AFCON tournament will first the time hold during the summer and the number of teams participating has been extended to 24.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Africa’s football governing body, CAF have named Egypt as the new hosts for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, slated to commence in the summer.

According to a statement via CAF’s official Twitter handle on Tuesday, January 8, announced Egypt will now replace Cameroon as the new hosts for the 24-nation tournament.
