- Senator Ali Ndume said the allged plot to impeach President Buhari will not stand
- The APC lawmaker said the president has not breached any law with Onnoghen's suspension
- The National Assemby is planning to reconvene following the president's action
Senator Ali Ndume has said that lawmakers on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will resist any attempt to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari over the suspension of Walter Onnoghen.
The former Senate leader spoke on Saturday, January 26 that the president has not breached the law.
He said: “As members of the APC in the National Assembly, we will put the nation’s interest above any parochial or sectional consideration in dealing with the issue.
“However, if anybody wants to start another trouble in the Senate over the issue, we are ready. We have the number; we have the strength because we constitute the majority.
“It’s just that the Senate leadership wants to play to the gallery, otherwise, I don’t see the same leadership that accused the judiciary of meddling in its affairs now moving against the President for fighting corruption in that arm of government.”
Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, January 25, 2019, suspended the embattled CJN Walter Onnoghen and appointed Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed from Bauchi state in acting capacity.
