Barcelona's Chumi faces ban after Levante made a complaint about the defender's ineligibility to play in their last 16 FA Cup match.

The Catalan giants defeated the Valencia based side on a 4-2 aggregate after turning around a 2-1 deficit in the first leg, with a 3-0 victory at the Camp Nou.

Levante had submitted a complaint to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) the following day after making the discovery.

But the administrative body decided that the complaint should have been done within the 24 hour window after the first leg, as stated by the Spanish rules.

The 19-year-old defender featured in the match despite picking up his fifth yellow card which equates to one -match suspension in a Barca team B match on January 6.

And according to the Federation rules, a player cannot play for the senior team until he has served the suspension, but Chumi was on parade against Levante.

However, the RFEF disciplinary committee rejected Levante's case because they waited to lodge their complaint until after the second leg.

An official statement released said: "because it was received outside of the established deadline". An appeal was also dismissed by Spain's Court of Arbitration.

But according to two Spanish news media outlets Mundo Deportivo and Sport, a fresh complaint has been accepted, leading to further disciplinary procedures against both player and club.

Barcelona are subject to a fine ranging from €3,000 to €30,000, while Chumi could have his playing licence redacted for a period from two to five years - according to Article 64 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code.
