- CSOs have urged President Muhammadu Buhari to declare his health status before the forthcoming elections
- The president of Equity and Justice Movement, Obatungashe Adebayo, said the country cannot afford to have a leader that is sick and will not be able to govern
- Comrade Abdul Usman Bako, the president of Campaign for Democracy (CD), also tasked the NASS to set up a team of medical experts to look into the health status of the president
The Good Governance Campaign (GGC), a coalition of at least 12 civil societies, has called on President Muhammad Buhari to declare his health status before the 2019 elections.
Sahara Reporters reports that the coalition made the demand during a march along the old toll gate end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on Thursday, January 24.
Legit.ng gathered that the president of Equity and Justice Movement, one of the organisations that made up the coalition, Obatungashe Adebayo, said the country cannot afford to have a leader that is sick and will not be able to govern.
He said: “We want the President himself or his physicians to come out to tell us his state of health to be sure that the president is capable, and he can rule this country for the next four years when people give him the mandate.
“We love him; we are not against him. What we are saying is that we love him the same way we love this country and we are stakeholders in the developmental agenda of this country.
“We cannot afford to see a leader that is sick and will not have the capacity to run this country the way it is supposed to be in the developmental programmes that have been outlined.”
Addressing newsmen, the president, Campaign for Democracy (CD), Comrade Abdul Usman Bako, said the call on the National Assembly to effect the provisions of Section 144 of the 1999 Constitution to set up team of medical experts to look into the health status of President Muhammadu Buhari, became imperative because Buhari was no longer fit to pilot the affairs of the country.
He who lamented that Nigeria was currently at a crossroad, said Buhari stumbled in the campaign rallies he went for in Kogi and Kaduna, accusing some cabal of trying to insist that President Buhari should continue in office because of their own selfish interest.
“President is not fit in all the campaigns he has been attending. In Kogi, he almost stumbled, in Kaduna, he almost stumbled. We are calling on the National Assembly to effect the provisions of Section 144 of the constitution to let us know the true health status of our president.
“Nigeria is at crossroads, let’s be brave, let’s be dogged in this movement,” the CD president said, pointing out that he had to come down to Lagos from his base in the North to be part of the protest", he said.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a group, Nigerian Traders For PMB (NTFPMB) charged their members to mobilise their households, neighbours, and friends to support and vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in the forthcoming presidential elections in order to exceed its 10 million vote target.
