Just in: Economy failing because investors know Buhari is not in charge - Saraki

- Senate president Bukola Saraki has aired his view as to why foreign investors are not bringing their businesses to Nigeria

- Saraki alleged that this is because the investor are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari is not in charge in Nigeria

- He further said that this is why the nation's economy is going through some series of major decline

Senate president Bukola Saraki on Wednesday, January 23, said that Nigeria’s foreign direct investment has witness a major decline because, according to him, foreign investors are aware that President Muhammadu Buhari is not in charge in Nigeria.

Saraki claimed that this is the reason international investors are not moved to do business in the country. He alleged that on many occasions, President Buhari indicated that there was a government in his administration that call the shots, Punch reports.

The Senate boss stated that with such air of uncertainty, foreign investors would not see Nigeria as a spot for growing their businesses. He said: “They need to be sure that the CEO is in charge. They need to have that confidence.

"I think from the sights we have seen, it is now clear that the majority of these issues are being driven. You know we have said many times that there is a government within the government.

“It is clear that the private sector doesn’t have the confidence and that is why if you look at the level of direct investment in the country, you will see that it is low.

“But our own candidate would drive that. He would be able to engage the private sector and inspire confidence to put in investment.”

As to why the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s flag bearer Atiku Abubakar did not use the opportunity of just-concluded presidential debate to address investors, Saraki said the former vice president would attend the forthcoming debate.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Saraki on Tuesday, December 25, said times are very hard for Nigerians as a result of the level of poverty in the country.

The Senate president also claimed that the All Progressives Congress and the present government has failed Nigerians.
