Police get new salary boost as election draws nearer

- Federal government has approved the payment of the new salaries scale for men of the Nigerian Police Force

- This development is sequel to the earlier approval of the salary rise for the force by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2018

- Reports said the salary rise is targeted towards boosting the morale of policemen for effective performance in the forthcoming elections

With few days to the beckoning hours of the 2019 general elections, an emerging report has indicated that the federal government has approved the payment of the new salary boost to men of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

The Independent reports that the new payment scale, which will commence next week, will be targeted towards boosting the morale of policemen for effective performance in the forthcoming elections.

Legit.ng gathers that the new payment scale was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2018, with report claiming that presidency released a special fund two weeks ago for the payment.

The new salary scale, according to Daily Independent, was not part of the 2019 budget and was not supposed to be paid until the approval of the budget by the National Assembly.

It was gathered that the immediate inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, was mandated by the presidency to figure out new salary scale and the modus operandi of payment for the police force.

But with the emergence of Abubakar Adamu as the new police IG, report said the new salaries will be paid in January and spread over to the subsequent months.
