Obasanjo addicted to 'a substance called power' - Itse Sagay

- Professor Itse Sagay has condemned the recent attack on President Buhari by Olusegun Obasanjo

- Sagay said Obasanjo lacks dignity and does not exhibit attributes of a leader

- According to Sagay, the former president is addicted to 'a substance called powder'

The presidency has described former president Olusegun Obasanjo as someone who lacks the dignity to admonish President Muhammadu Buhari.

The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay, condemning Obasanjo for the attack on President Buhari said, it is clear that the former president is addicted to a substance called powder

In a seven-page response titled, "Obasanjo and the Power Withdrawal Syndrome", Sagay said the former president has been exhibiting boisterous, aggressive and hectoring attitude towards succeeding presidents.

According to Sagay, the status of a former president is usually that of quiet, dignity, respect among others, however, he said Obasanjo lacked all of those.

"We have had a number of former heads of state, namely, (Yakubu) Gowon, (Shehu) Shagari, (Ibrahim) Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar and (Goodluck) Jonathan," Sagay said.

“These former heads of state have exercised discretion, restraint and self-discipline in relation to their successors, but not Obasanjo. Gowon was Obasanjo’s boss from 1966 to 1975 (nine years). Not once did Gowon utter a public criticism of Obasanjo throughout his tenure from 1976 to 1979 and 1999 to 2007.

“The same thing applies to Abdulsalami Abubakar, who handed over power to Obasanjo in 1999. Not a single word of public excoriation against Obasanjo was uttered by Abdulsalami Abubakar throughout Obasanjo’s eight years in power. Abubakar demonstrated only decorum and self-respect," Sagay added.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned Bola Tinubu over his comments against Obasanjo.

The opposition described Tinubu's comments against the former president as disrespectful, reckless, unguarded and indecorous.

The party was responding to the All Progressives Congress (APC) leader's comments on Obasanjo after the former president took the APC-led federal government to the cleaners over its performance in office.
