President Muhammadu Buhari is presiding over the National Council of State meeting, which began at 11:00am inside the Council Chambers of the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.
TVC reports that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, said apologies was sent from former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, for not attending the meeting.
Legit.ng gathered that the Council of State is an organ of the federal government saddled with the responsibility of advising the executive on policy making.
The council, which comprises president as chairman and vice president as deputy chairman, has as members all former presidents and Heads of State, all former Chief Justices of Nigeria, president of the Senate, speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors and Attorney-General of the Federation as members.
Without mentioning details of the agenda during the opening session, the Secretary to the Government of the Federations, Boss Mustapha said that the meeting would discuss five point agenda.
It was gathered that the issues expected to be considered at the meeting includes the national minimum wage, and confirmation of the appointment of the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
The forthcoming general election and security of the nation are also expected to engage the attention of the Council of State.
Those in attendance are the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Senate president, Bukola Saraki, former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Governors of Zamfara, Kebbi, Plateau, Lagos, Borno, Ebonyi and members of cabinet.
Others present include former Heads of State, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ernest Shonekan, Abdulsalami Abubakar and Former Chief Justices of Nigeria.
The INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, is also present and there are fillers that the meeting would focus on the general elections.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that for the second time in less than 48 hours, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria’s former president, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari to go and rest.
Obasanjo insisted that President Buhari was not balanced enough to handle the affairs of Nigeria beyond 2019.
