Atiku may lose 4m Lagos voters in general elections - Mark Iheanyi

- Mark Iheanyi, a founder of an Atiku support group, warns that the PDP's success in the presidential election could be hampered as 800 pro-Atiku groups in Lagos state are being denied campaign materials

- Iheanyi notes that Atiku campaign groups in Lagos have been funding campaigns for the PDP presidential candidate in the state without financial backing from the campaign headquarters

- The PDP chieftain says something has to be done fast before the groups are forced to abandon the Atiku campaign ahead of the elections

The chairman of the coalition of all Atiku support groups in Lagos state, Mark Iheanyi, has warned that the PDP presidential candidate could lose over four million voters in the general elections if nothing is done to end the lingering denial of campaign materials to about 800 pro-Atiku groups in Lagos.

Iheanyi who is also the founder/national chairman of Atiku leadership forum in Lagos, said the Atiku campaign groups have been funding campaigns for the PDP presidential candidate in the state without getting financial backing from the campaign headquarters, Vanguard reports.

"The leadership of the party has never told us that the support groups will not be compensated for their efforts. The tactical manner they are going about it needs to be re-examined. Even when PDP leaders had a meeting with the coordinators of the groups in Lagos, they went home disgruntled,"the PDP chieftain said.

“Something has to be done fast before our teeming members are demoralised and forced to abandon the campaign. Given the 6.6 million voting population of Lagos State, we require at least two campaign buses for each of the three senatorial zones.”

Iheanyi said it was important for the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCO) to refrain from doing anything that would slow down the tempo of the campaign and lead to losing the election in Lagos state.

The party chief urged the PDP leadership to focus on winning the February 16 presidential election by defeating the APC.

In another report, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom, has declared that his state and the south south region off the country will soon be taken over by his party just like it happened in the south west.

The south south is dominated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom, expressed his optimism in Uyo, the capital of the state on Monday, January 21, at a rally to flag off the APC’s campaign.

Akpabio also declared that President Muhammadu Buhari will win the February 16, election and, after then, give some appointment slot to Akwa Ibom people.
