Yemi Osinbajo, the vice president has advised Nigerians to resist the ploy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to return to power through the forthcoming general elections.
Osinbajo claimed that the opposition party's scheme was to loot Nigeria's resource, alleging that the nation's economy would have been in shambles if not for the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy, The Nations reports.
Contrary to the description of the TraderMoni as a wasteful economic policy by some, Osinbajo referred to the scheme as “one of the major policies of President Buhari’s government, because it is focused to enlarge government’s financial inclusion down to the grassroots, the youth and poor Nigerians.”
The vice president pointed out that that the federal government’s objective is to cushion the harsh effect of poverty by empowering entrepreneurs in the country.
He said this on Monday, January 21, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital, during a mentorship programme on Micro, Small and Medium Scale enterprises (MSME).
The TraderMoni programme was done in Ado-Ekiti, Ikere and Omuo Ekiti. speaking further, Osinbajo said Nigerians would go through more economic rot, if the PDP is given the chance to return to power.
He said that the federal government would set up special microfinance banks such as People’s Money Bank and Entrepreneurial Bank to facilitate the TraderMoni and Market Money policies, so that beneficiaries will get between N100,000 and N500,000 to establish MSMEs to grow the economy.
Osinbajo staed: “Many of our leaders are not responsible. So, Nigeria needs an honest man to lead the people and President Buhari is doing just that. Don’t allow anybody to deceive you. President Buhari is an honest man. Our problem in this country is that many of our leaders are stealing our money. So, you must disallow them from coming to power again.”
He assured residents that Ekiti stands to gain from the present Lagos-Kano railway line, adding that the project was aimed at enhancing the economy of each state included in the plan.
The vice president said: “Rather than stealing money, President Buhari is doing more in strengthening youths through N-Power, TraderMoni, School Feeding Programme, Lagos-Kano rail line, Calabar—Asaba-Abuja railway line, among others. All these are meant to benefit the Nigerian masses.
“As we speak, 500,000 Nigerians are benefiting from N-Power. But we are not going to stop at that. Soon, the number will increase.
“The Next Level of our government is to give loans to women, youths and other sectors through the special banks that are underway to make lives easy for the masses.”
On his part, the governor of the state, Kayode Fayemi, in support of President Buhari, said that if Nigerians need a better future through proper management of the country's wealth, they should vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general polls.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Former President Olusegun Obasanjo who expressed disappointment in vice president Yemi Osinbajo’s activities said he had shown human weakness and proved the saying that the corruption of the best was the worst form of corruption.
