Premier League giants, Arsenal, have been hit with a massive injury blow in Hector Bellerin.
According to reports, the star defender will not be able to feature for the Gunners for the remainder of the season after suffering a horrific injury during Chelsea win at the Emirates.
The 23-year-old was diagnosed with a ruptured cruciate knee ligament after further assessments were carried out.
Bellerin went down in a heap in the 72nd minute of the Saturday, January 19, clash and was unable to continue playing.
He was subsquently replaced by Egyptian international Mohamed Elneny, with Unai Emery admitting moments after the match that he expected Bellerin to be out for a lengthy period.
Emery's fears now seem to have been affirmed after scans revealing the worst for the player and the club who are battling for a top four finish this season.
A UK Metro report citing the Guardian further disclosed the severity of the defender's injury means Bellerin may even struggle for fitness to return for the start of next season.
The injury now leaves Emery with a selection nightmare, with the right-back now likely to be replaced by Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Stephan Lichtsteiner in Arsenal’s starting XI.
Englishman Carl Jenkinson could be another potential option, but he is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League so far this season under Emery.
The Spaniard tactician has since downplayed the prospect of his side landing a replacement for Bellerin in the ongoing January window transfer.
The Gunners currently sit fifth on the log with 44 points, just three behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how it was claimed that Arsenal manager Unai Emery wants German football star Mesut Ozil to leave the Premier League giants before the January transfer window closes.
The Gunners want to sell the former Real Madrid star so as to raise funds to bring in Barcelona star Denis Suarez to the Emirates stadium.
Mesut Ozil who is the Gunners' highest-paid player on around £350,000-per-week was left out of the team that lost against West Ham United in their last Premier League encounter.
