Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has allegedly asked members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to help the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) win the 2019 general elections in the state.

Premium Times reports that the Akwa Ibom governor made this appeal on Saturday, January 19, at a political rally in Obot Akara Local Government Area of the state.

Emmanuel asked if there were NYSC members around and when they responded in the affirmative, he reportedly asked them to help the PDP win.

“You are the ones that will do elections. You know how you do it! When you are doing it, remember PDP! When you are doing it, remember PDP-o!

“Gowon is a member of PDP, in case you don’t know,” the governor continued, after asking the crowd if they knew who started the NYSC programme in the country.

Governor Emmanuel urged the people to vote for Chris Ekpenyong saying he would fight for their interest.

He said: “I can sign my signature on him, he will not betray you people, and he will not betray PDP. Nobody loves Obot Akara and Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District like Chris Ekpenyong. I have checked records, this is the first time Obot Akara is going to produce a senator."

Ekpenyong in his reaction assured the governor that the party will be victorious.

He said: “We have finished campaigns, we have finished the election. We are only waiting for the D-day. We know how to do elections.

“When we finish in Obot Akara we will move on to another part of the state to give support to those who don’t know how to vote. We will surely extend our boundary from Obot Akara to all parts of Akwa Ibom.”

Meanwhile, Governor Emmanuel and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nsima Ekere, on Thursday, January 17, reportedly shunned a governorship debate organized by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
