Buhari arrives Maiduguri for presidential campaign

- President Buhari has arrived the Nigerian Air Force wing of the Maiduguri International Airport for his campaign in the northeast region

- On arrival, the president was Buhari received by Adams Oshiomole, national security adviser Babagana Monguno, the minister of state works Baba Shehuri and other dignitaries

- The president is expected to address a gathering of party supporters at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri, to drum up support for his re-election bid

The President Muhammadu Buhari campaign train on Monday, January 21, arrived Maiduguri in continuation of its re-election campaign activities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buhari landed at about 10.30am at the Nigerian Air Force wing of the Maiduguri International Airport.

He was received by Adams Oshiomole, the chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC); national security adviser, Maj Gen. (rtd), Babagana Monguno; and the minister of state works, Baba Shehuri.

Other dignitaries that received the president are Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno, members of the national and state House of Assembly and other party leaders.

The president is expected to address a gathering of party supporters at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri, to drum up support for his re-election bid.

Hundreds of party supporters displaying posters and singing solidarity songs throng the streets of the metropolis to welcome the president.

NAN reports that the Borno state government had declared Monday public holiday to enable the residents welcome the president.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the recent comments of former president Olusegun Obasanjo on the 2019 general elections.

The PDP in a statement sent to Legit.ng on Sunday, January 20, by its presidential campaign spokesman, Kola Ologbodiya, said the concerns raised by Obasanjo have vindicated its earlier position on the credibility of the polls.

Obasanjo had in a press conference said President Muhammadu Buhari is planning to use the apparatus of state power to to subjugate Nigerians, undermine the country's democratic system, subvert the electoral process and perpetuate himself in office.
