- Mesut Ozil was an unused substitute in Arsenal's 2-0 victory over Chelsea
- The German star has been struggling for playing time under Unai Emery
- But the Arsenal boss has revealed Ozil was in line to play against the Blues before snubbing the midfielder
Arsenal boss, Unai Emery, has now revealed embattled midfielder Mesut Ozil was in line to start against Chelsea in the Gunners' 2-0 comfortable victory over rivals, Chelsea, at the Emirates.
Two second-half goals from Alexander Lacazette and Laurent Koscielny gifted the Gunners a crucial Premier League win on Saturday, January 19.
Ozil, whose future at the Emirates has come under sharp speculation in recent times was once again an unused substitute during the clash as he continues to struggle for playing time under Emery.
A week earlier, Emery left out the German playmaker out of the squad altogether as the Gunners went on to lose against the Hammers.
However, details have now emerged that the Arsenal manager had assured Ozil of a starting role in the tie against the Blues before dropping him to the bench.

The Spanish asserted he would have been comfortable playing Ozil against Chelsea, despite the former Real Madrid making just 12 appearances for Arsenal this season.
"He was on Saturday okay to play, but we decided not play [him]," the UK Metro quoted Emery after the Saturday clash.
"I spoke with him also and I want to him be ready for the match today, for the next matches like all the players in the team."
"Against Chelsea, I have the confidence in him if he played, I think he could do like we want and the next matches we are going to need every player and also his quality," he added.
Be that as it may, Ozil will be desperate for a starting place when Arsenal host in-form Manchester United for the FA Cup on Friday, January 25.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has given some explanation on how German football star Mesut Ozil should be treated at Premier League side Arsenal.
The former Real Madrid star has not been impressive for the Gunners this season in which there are reports that he could be on his way out of the club this month.
