- Traders in Edo has commended the federal government for bringing TraderMoni to the state
- The traders also lauded Governor Obaseki of the state, who accompanied Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to visit the traders
- The traders, who got the federal government loan under the TraderMoni scheme, said they would use the loan to expand their businesses
The federal government and Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo have been hailed by market women in the state for ensuring that traders in the state benefit from TraderMoni.
TraderMoni is a federal government empowerment scheme, created specifically for petty traders and artisans across the country.
Leadership reports that some of the excited traders said the loan would help them in expanding their businesses.
Legit.ng gathers that Osinbajo's visit to the state was commended by the president of Edo Market Association, Black Omoregie.
She said: “Traders have started receiving credit alerts from TraderMoni. The N10,000 will go a long way in helping members of our association increase their business capital. When we heard about the scheme, we thought it won’t be implemented because we have had cases of governments promising to give traders loans and they eventually failed to do so.
“So we are very happy to see that the vice president come to visit us at the market and give us money to trade with.”
During his visit to Oba market and Ekiosa market in Benin City, Vice President Osinbajo urged the traders to make good use of the loan so as to benefit from the next stage of the scheme.
Osinbajo, who was accompanied by Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, said: “When you pay back this N10,000, you get N15,000; when you pay back the N15,000, you get N20,000. You can get up to N100,000."
An excited crayfish trader in Ekiosa market, Joyce Iyamu, said: “I got my TraderMoni alert of N10, 000. I am happy because I will use the money to buy more food items to sell at the market."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that allegations that TraderMoni was aimed at buying votes in the 2019 general elections was dismissed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Osinbajo maintained that the programme was not a vote buying measure employed by President Muhammadu Buhari ahead of the elections.
He made this known after an inspection of the command centre of the TraderMoni programme located at the BOI headquarters in Abuja.
He said: “Anybody who calls TraderMoni vote buying is absurd; you can see it for yourself that this is a programme that has affected millions of lives."
