Onnoghen: Nabena cautions south south leaders, governors, others over threats
- A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress has condemned various threats by leaders and governors from the south south over Justice Walter Onnoghen ordeal
- Yekini Nabena said the threats and comments from these leaders are dangerous, unacceptable and totally misplaced
- According to Nabena, the CJN has already confirmed the discrepancy in his asset declaration form and these leaders should allow the provisions of the law take its course on the matter
The deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned leaders and governors from the south south region of the country over comments on the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.
Yekini Nabena also condemned threats the these leaders and governor following the arraignment of the CJN before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over false declaration of assets.
Speaking during a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, January 20, Nabena said the attempt to give Justice Onnoghen's prosecution at the CCT an ethnic colouration is dangerous, unacceptable and totally misplaced.

He also said that while Onnoghen has already confirmed the discrepancy in his asset declaration and these leaders should allow the provisions of the law take its course on the matter.
He said that the right and proper thing for the southsouth leaders and governors to do is to allow the CCT or any other empowered judicial body look at the allegation contained in the petition, consider Justice Onnoghen's defence and take a judicial decision.
Nabena said: "Resort to blackmail, ethnic coloration, inciting statements and threats to sabotage the country's economic assets by the South South leaders, Niger Delta agitators and South South governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the legitimate prosecution must be condemned by all.
"They will be held responsible for any breakdown of the peace in the Niger Delta that has sustained since the advent of the President Muhammad Buhari government.
"The fight against corruption and ensuring the rule of law is blind to ethnic, religious, social, economic and political standing of whoever is accused or indicted for breach of our laws." The Bayelsa-born APC chieftain stated.

Also citing a court decision, Nganjiwa vs FRN (2017)LPELR-43391(CA), Nabena further dismissed arguments of the jurisdiction of the CCT to entertain the petition against the Chief Justice of Nigeria without recourse to the National Judicial Commission.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government has launched a probe into the 13-salary account of the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The probe into the salary account of the CJN will date back to September 2005 is expected to expose alleged questionable deposits made into Onnoghen's account.
Also, a fact sheet from the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) which was sent to the Attorney General of the Federation showed that about N100 million was received through the CJN's salary account with Union Bank Plc between September 2005 and October 2016.
