Joy as FG signs N1.9bn projects for rural electricity

- The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) said it has signed an agreement deal involving N1.952 billion grants

- REA director, Damilola Ogunbiyi, disclosed that the agency sealed the fund deal to provide off-grid electricity to rural areas in the country

- Ogunbiyi also added that the project will create over 400 jobs, provide clean, safe and reliable electricity to over 43,000 households and businesses

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) said it has signed an agreement deal involving N1.952 billion grants to 26 private sector developers as this will enable them to provide off-grid electricity to rural areas.

Speaking during the signing ceremony at the the agency's headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, January 17, REA director, Damilola Ogunbiyi, disclosed that the agency sealed the fund deal with Rural Electrification Fund (REF), Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the N1.952 billion cost project will bridge the gap of unemployment by creating over 4000 jobs, providing clean, safe and reliable electricity to over 43,000 households and businesses.

It also notes that the project will also put an end to greenhouse carbon emissions annually by over 5,000 metric tons as developers claimed that energy solution could be deployed within three weeks in Kebbi and Ogun state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the federal government said it was working with the Indian government to access 100 million dollars concessional loan to develop the country’s rural broadband connectivity.

The minister of communications, Adebayo Shittu, said this in an interview with newsmen on the sidelines of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Day held in Abuja on Thursday, January 17.
