The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has arrived Washington DC on a visit to the United States.
Atiku in a tweet on Thursday night, January 17, said he would be meeting with Nigerians living in Washington DC metropolis and the business community.
The PDP presidential candidate was in the company of the Senate president, Bukola Saraki.
Just arrived Washington D.C for meeting with US government officials, Nigerians living in D.C metropolis and the business community," the tweet read.
Seun Okin of Channels TV shared a video of Atiku at the Washington Dulles International Airport:
Atiku's US trip followed conflicting reports on Thursday night, January 17, over the PDP presidential candidate’s visit. While some reports had claimed Atiku was already in the US, other reports said he was on his way.
This was after an online newspaper, The Cable, reported that Atiku secretly flew out from Lagos on Wednesday night, January 16, with most of his aides and associates taken unawares.
He was scheduled to be in Ogun state on Thursday morning, January 17, but the event was cancelled, it said.
However, when contacted over the issue, Atiku’s special adviser on media, Paul Ibe dismissed the report of Atiku travelling to the United States.
Ibe told Daily Trust via a telephone chat that online reports which stated that Atiku had travelled to the US were a figment of the imagination of the authors.
“You know what the social media can do. You know the social media for what they are now. It is not true. His Excellency hasn’t gone anywhere,” he said.
