- PDP has accused APC of planning to frame up its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, before the presidential election
- Kola Ologbondiyan, the party's national publicity secretary, alleged that the APC has perfected plan to embarrass Atiku on trumped up charges of gun running
- The party, however, said it would resist any attempt by the APC to smear its candidate ahead of the forthcoming elections
The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation (PPCO) has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is planning to frame the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on trumped up charges of gun running.
Nigerian Tribune reports that the party, in a statement issued in Abuja, on Wednesday, January 17, by the director, media and publicity (PDP), presidential campaign organisation, by Kola Ologbondiyan, said intelligence available to it shows that agents of the APC have already perfected plots to brand some vehicle with Atiku campaign colours, laden them with arms and ammunition and take them to Atiku’s home in Abuja and Adamawa, where conniving security agents would pounce on them to embarrass our candidate on trumped up charges of gun running.
Legit.ng gathered that the PPCO condemned the plot in totality and urged Nigerians to note that APC has become frenetic and increasingly vicious in its desperation to smear its candidate ahead of the 2019 presidential election.
The party, therefore, called on all Nigerians to be at alert “and continue to be wary of the malicious activities of the APC and the Buhari's presidency, who, in the despondency of their imminent and inevitable defeat at the presidential poll, have sold their souls to mischief.”
It affirmed that “Nigerians now know who to hold responsible should any harm befall Atiku Abubakar, who they have attained a consensus to vote in, as the next President of our country, come February 2019.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari promised to concede defeat if he lost the forthcoming 2019 presidential elections.
It was reported that while speaking at a town hall meeting tagged "The Candidates," the president said he was not afraid to lose the election since he had suffered it three times before becoming the president in 2015.
President Buhari, who expressed optimism on winning the poll with a landslide victory, however promised to succumb to the will of the country in case if was defeated.
