South-south governors have have backed the re-election bid of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state.
According to the governors, the federal might the All Progressives Congress (APC) is banking on would fail in the governorship election, the Sun reports.
Governor Henry Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state who is also the chairman of the governors of the South-South disclosed this at the flag off of the Governor Udom’s campaign.
He claimed all the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors are solidly behind Udom.
He said: “You have a good product, a good man in Gov Udom Emmanuel. As someone who has gone though a second term elections, there is nothing strange that you have seen. It is during second term elections that you see friends becoming enemies; this is when you see the people you have helped turning their back on you. But you must realise the fact that second time elections are an opportunity for consolidation. I went through a tough battle and because of your support, we had the opportunity of consolidating good governance, and that is what you need in Akwa Ibom. Bayelsa won election against the Federal might, if we could do it in Bayelsa, you too can do it in Akwa Ibom. With this massive crowd that I have seen and the unprecedented support there, I will go back and tell them that Akwa Ibom is sure.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that President Muhammadu Buhari urged persons or organisations with any evidence of corrupt practices against members of his administration to come forward with such evidences to him for prompt action.
The president gave the challenge at a town hall meeting tagged: ‘The Candidates’ organised by the MacArthur Foundation, in collaboration with NTA and DARIA Media in Abuja on Wednesday, January 16.
President Buhari was fielding questions on the allegations that the government’s anti-corruption crusade was skewed against a section of Nigerians, and that members of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) with questionable credentials were being protected by the government.
