Death is something most people do not look forward to seeing as it would leave one having to deal with the loss of someone dear but death is inevitable and it is still dreaded.

Several people have different ways of dealing with grief. For some, they move on quickly from the loss while others try to make the memory of the deceased last for a long time.

In most parts of the world, when an individual dies, friends and loved ones often try to send them off in the most respectable and befitting way but the same cannot be said for how they treat animals.

However, Legit.ng gathered the report of a grieving dog owner, Sasha Smajic, who organised a beautiful and touching funeral for her dog like she would have done for any family member.

She spent a total of £4,249 (N1,989,799) to celebrate her Staffordshire Bull Terrier one last time.

A number of individuals often refer to dogs as man’s best friend but they might not be willing to spend millions on the burial of an animal.

Sasha’s dog, Captain, died on Christmas day at the ripe age of 11 after suffering a cardiac arrest during an operation. His demise left its owner unable to eat for a week.

Just before Christmas, the dog had been diagnosed with stomach cancer which took a turn for the worst soon after.

After she came to terms with his death, she decided to bury him in the best way possible. His funeral included flowers, a horse-drawn carriage, white doves, a beautiful white coffin, among other things.

According to Metro, his body was taken from the vets in a horse-drawn carriage and was later transferred to a hearse for the drive to the cemetery.

A poem was read at his graveside as 11 doves were released to represent each year he spent on earth.

His grief-stricken owner explained that she felt like a piece of her left with the dog. She said: “I don’t think I’ll ever celebrate another Christmas. I don’t think I would ever have the strength to do that – a piece of me has gone.”

Speaking on why she spent so much on Captain’s funeral, she explained that it was her baby and deserves a good burial.

‘Captain deserved a special send off. For some people he was a dog, to me he was my baby – he was everything to me and always will be."

“I don’t think we should differentiate [between animals and humans]. If you decide to have a pet then you have decided to have a kid in your family and they should have the same respect as humans.”

May Captain rest in peace.

Meanwhile Legit.ng previously reported that a Nigerian dentist was left heartbroken after her dog was allegedly poisoned to death.

People keep dogs for various reasons. For some, they are kept to provide security, while others keep them as companions or pets. Nobody looks forward to mourning the death of a companion.

A lady, identified on Facebook as Njoku Chidinma, has been left distraught after her dog, Duke, passed on. According to her, the pet was poisoned and killed by some unknown people who have intense dislike for dogs.

The heartbroken lady took to her page to share photos of fond moments she had with Duke, revealing that he would be greatly missed, as she also called out its killers. She explained that she is in so much pain and that the killers of her pet also deserve to feel pain.
