Man United defeat Tottenham by 1-0 courtesy of a Rashford goal

- Manchester United record narrow 1-0 victory over Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium

- Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the match in the first half with a sublime finish

- United are back in contention for the Premier League title and level on points with Arsenal

Manchester United recorded their sixth consecutive victory following a 1-0 win over Tottenham at the Wembley Stadium.

Marcus Rashford scored the only goals of the match as United in the first half as United are now level on points with Arsenal in fifth on the log.

The much anticipated match between the two sides did not seem as electrifying as expected but there were all of tactical disciplines.

Anthony Martial had the best chance of the match in the opening 20 minutes after driving in into the box to force a right-legged save from his international teammate Hugo Lloris.

Spurs knew they had to respond and in the 31st minute a flick from Dele Alli in the box found Harry Kane whose shot hit the back of the net but the referee's assistant flagged him offside.

But the defining moment of the match was in the 44th minute as a diagonal pass from Paul Pogba found Marcus Rashford who ran into the box and slotted the ball home to make 1-0 to United.

The Red Devils went into the break with a one-goal lead knowing full well they can be level on points with Arsenal in fifth if they run away with a win.

Kane set the ball rolling in the second half as his 47th minute effort was on target but that did pull out a fine save from David De Gea.

Pogba also bulldozed his way into Spurs defence in the 57th minute and Lloris was equal to the task to stop his fellow Frenchman.

The tempo of the match increased as both sides were attacking each other in an end-to-end stuff but chances came begging for Kane and Erik Lamela as both players lacked the finish.

United keeper De Gea began to show why he is the best shot-stopper in the world after pulling out a couple of saves from Toby Alderweireld and another fantastic stop from Kane's free-kick.

At this point of the game Spurs had created eight good chances on goal but the United held their ground to maintain their one-goal advantage.

United held on to claim all three points as they reawaken their Premier League ambitions with the crucial victory.
