- The Integrity Group has said the Rotimi Amaechi leaked audio is targeted at setting the minister up for political assassination
- In the audio recording, the minister is heard making shocking pessimistic views about Nigeria and President Buhari-led administration
- According to the group, the plot to subtly portray Amaechi as a saboteur and undermine the south south in the current dispensation is unhealthy for politics
The audio recording credited to the minister of transportation and the director general of Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organisation, Rotimi Amaechi, has been described by the Integrity Group as sheer blackmail against the minister and the south south region.
The Guardian reports that the assertion was made in Abuja by the director of the group, Livingstone Wechie.
Legit.ng gathers that Wechie said: "It is most unfortunate that fake news has gone extreme to the point where honest, frank and private conversations can be so contrived with the aim of destroying the reputation of an individual and his region.
“May we state at this point that this mischievous release is targeted at setting Rotimi Amaechi up for political assassination, particularly at this era of desperate campaigns. This must be taken seriously by the relevant security agencies."
He said the plot to subtly portray Amaechi as a saboteur and undermine the south-south in the current dispensation “is unhealthy for our politics and it could be anybody’s turn, no matter the political party".
Wechie added: “Politicians at this time must involve themselves in conversations that will deal with the fundamentals of our nationhood in pursuit of development, and not to inundate the citizenry with deception and waste the time of unsuspecting members of the public."
The group called on Nigerians cast their ballots for candidates with issue-based campaigns in the forthcoming general elections.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Ibim Semenitari, former commissioner of information when Amaechi held sway as Rivers state governor, reacted to the audio recording credited to her former boss, saying it is a clear case of cut and paste.
In the leaked audio recording, Amaechi is heard expressing shocking pessimistic views about Nigeria and President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.
Amaechi said three years into the administration of President Buhari, Nigerians are crying, adding that the rate of poverty is very high. He said the country would never change.
