Attacks on us are dangerous signs for elections - PDP

- The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization alleged that its Ondo state campaign office of presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku, was attacked by hoodlums

- The organization accused the All Progressives Congress and the police of being responsible for the attacks

- The campaign group, however, described the occurrence as dangerous signs for the 2019 general elections

The Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organization (PPCO) has accused the All Progressives Congress of allegedly attacking its Ondo state campaign office of presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku.

Nigerian Tribune reports that the organisation made this accusation while describing the spate of violent attacks against its members as ominous signs for the 2019 general elections.

This was contained in a statement by director, media and publicity PDP presidential campaign organisation, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Thursday, January 10.

The PDP said: “This is in addition to series of other attacks by the APC and the police, including arresting and detaining our members on trumped-up charges, as well as pulling down our campaign materials in various states of the federation.

“It is now clear that the presidency, having realised that their smear campaigns against our party and presidential candidate cannot change the resolve by Nigerians to rally behind our candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has now resorted to physically attacking and unleashing violence against our members.

“We know that the presidency had to deploy brute force to disrupt our rally in Jigawa state when it realised that the rally will amplify and reinforce President Muhammadu Buhari and APC’s rejection, particularly in their supposed stronghold, the northwest.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that suspected hoodlums on Wednesday, January 9, vandalised the campaign office of Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

According to the report, the thugs, all suspected to be members of the ruling All Progressives Congress scaled the fence of the office located beside the Federal College of Agriculture on Ijapo road in Akure and destroyed items and billboards bearing PDP candidates.

Olumide Ogunkua, the personal assistant to the state coordinator of the Atiku presidential campaign confirmed the attack to journalists.

Ogunkua noted that the hoodlums after entering the compound of the campaign office began to chant the APC slogan of “Next Level” and destroying the posters bearing Atiku /Obi for 2019 president.
