2019: Ebonyi deputy governor seizes salaries of govt officials absent from PDP rally meeting

- Kelechi Igwe said some political office holders deliberately decided to be absent from a meeting in spite of the wide publicity of given the date, time and venue

The Ebonyi deputy governor, Kelechi Igwe, has ordered that some political officers from Ikwo, his home local government area forfeit their January salaries over absenteeism.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the order given on Thursday, January 10, indicated that the affected officers were absent during a meeting to plan for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rally in the area on Jan. 17.

The deputy governor said that the meeting was convened for stakeholders to evolve ways of ensuring a hitch-free rally of the party on the said date.

According to him, “Regrettably, some political office holders deliberately decided to be absent from the meeting in spite of the wide publicity of given the date, time and venue.

“Consequently, I direct the Principal Secretary (PS) to the governor, Chief Clement Nweke, to ensure that the affected officers forfeit their January salaries.

“This is to deter others as Ikwo people are determined to hold a successful rally for the PDP on that day.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that a chieftain of the APC, Arthur Eze, urged people in Ebonyi to re-elect the state governor, David Umahi, a member of the PDP, for his outstanding performance.

He said that the achievements recorded by Umahi’s current administration indicated that he would do more if given another chance to rule the state.

According to Eze, who was a guest of the state government, Umahi has exhibited total commitment to the development of Ebonyi.
