Manchester City full back Kyle Walker has branded himself better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo after scoring in his side's 9-0 demolition over Burton Albion in their EFL Cup semifinal first leg clash.

The England international scored in the 70th minute of the encounter as the Premier League champions cruised to convincing victory.

While posting on social media, the former Tottenham Hotspur captioned the photo: Goals in 2019: Walker: 1 Ronaldo: 0, Goals in Carabao Cup: Walker: 1 Messi: 0, end of discussion?'

Daily Mail reports that Walker posted the joke because he has scored more goals than Ronaldo nine days into 2019.

And more goals in the EFL Cup than Messi - a competition that the Argentine can't play in - he thinks he has reached a conclusion on who is top of the tree.

His goal against the lower league side takes his goal tally this campaign to two goals after grabbing his first goal this season in City's 2-1 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Other goal scorers in the match were Gabriel Jesus, who scored four, Kevin de Bruyne, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez all got on the scoresheet.

Walker however decided to jump on the long-running debate about Messi and Ronaldo on who is better between the two.

The duo have won five Ballon d'Or awards each and last year Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric became the first player since 2007 to win the award who wasn't Messi or Ronaldo.
