There was a pandemonium in Katsina when about 20 people who were going to their separate villages from a wedding ceremony in Kankara were attacked and abducted by unknown gunmen in the outskirts of the town.
Premium Times reports that villagers from Safana local government area of Katsina state have confirmed the incident said the gunmen opened fire forcing them to stop, demanded for valuables like cell phones and money.
It was learnt that two men escaped and one was hit by a bullet in the arm during the attack, with fear of being a burden in case he doesn’t make it, the gunmen freed him and gave him a description of how to get to the highway.
According to the report, he is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, where he was operated on and two bullets removed from his arm
They have since called the villages to demand a ransom of N50 million, which was later reduced to N40 million.
The community elders disagreed, as they resulted to prayer, saying they would not want to indulge the kidnappers any further, since kidnapping people for money has become the order of the day in the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isa, after several telephone calls insisted that after checking their data, they are not aware of the incident.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that unknown gunmen whisked away Alhaji Abdullahi Maje. Maje, the Suleja local government chairman, was kidnapped on his way home shortly after leaving his office.
The gunmen stopped his official car and forced him into another vehicle before driving him to unknown destination.
It was learnt that the incident occurred a few hours to the House of Representatives primary election of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the area.
