- The lawmakers abandoned the parallel campaign team which was inaugurated by pro-Buhari group
- The PDP lawmakers stated that the pro-Fayose council does not represent the general wish of PDP in Ekiti
The lawmakers on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ekiti state House of Assembly has, on Wednesday, January 9, declared support for the Atiku Campaign Council inaugurated by Senator Biodun Olujimi.
The lawmakers, according to The Punch, disowned the Presidential Campaign Council inaugurated by former Governor Ayodele Fayose.
Legit.ng gathers that the campaign council supported by the PDP state lawmakers is being led by one of the PDP chieftains in the state, Yinka Akerele.
The campaign council was inaugurated on Tuesday, January 8, by Olujimi, who the is the current Senate minority leader.
The lawmakers’ position is reportedly contained in a letter addressed to the PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, and dated January 8.
The deputy speaker, Olusegun Adewunmi, led the 12 PDP lawmakers who signed the letter.
The letter read: “We stand by the authentic list duly signed and published by the PDP nominated and accepted director general, Yinka Akerele.
Anything short of this will again spell doom for the fortune of our party in the forthcoming elections.”
“For the avoidance of any doubt, we the undersigned are the only remaining structure of PDP in Ekiti state and abhor any arrangement that will relegate us to the background in the scheme of political activities in Ekiti state.”
The PDP lawmakers stated that the list of pro-Fayose council “does not represent the general wish of PDP in Ekiti state and as well does not reflect the template authorised by the National Executive Committee of our great party as adopted by other state chapters of PDP in the southwest and Nigeria.”
They further said that Fayose cannot deliver Ekiti state to the PDP in the coming presidential election.
“We state with all sense of responsibility that ex-governor Fayose cannot deliver victory for us in PDP in Ekiti state. That was exactly what he did prior to the governorship election which cost our party the desired victory.”
The PDP lawmakers who signed the letter include Adewunmi, Omodara Olaposi, Badejo Anifowose, Musa Arogundade, Olayode Omotosho, Titilayo Akerele, Cecilia Dada, Afolabi Akanni, Ojo-Ade Fajana, Olayanju Olanrewaju, Adewale Ayeni and Temitope Fasanmi.
Olujimi who is also seeking re-election to the Senate in the forthcoming elections had earlier faulted the campaign council constituted by the pro-Fayose group.
She claimed that the move was not in line whit what was agreed upon at a PDP meeting. Consequently, parallel Atiku campaign councils were inaugurated on Tuesday, January 8.
While the pro-Fayose group has Chief Dipo Anisulowo as DG, the pro-Olujimi group has Yinka Akerele as DG.
