Military recovers 45 assorted rifles, ammunition from Nasarawa militia camp

- 45 assorted weapons and 701 assorted ammunition have been recovered from Bassa militia camp in Nasarawa by the Nigerian military

- Major General Adeyemi Yekini made the disclosure while presenting the recovered weapons to newsmen in Lafia

- The recovery was made following an intelligence report by Operation Wild Stroke

The Nigerian military has disclosed that 45 assorted weapons and 701 assorted ammunition have been recovered from Bassa militia camp in Zwere, Toto local government area of Nasarawa state

The disclosure was made on Wednesday, January 9, by the commander of Operation Wild Stroke in charge of Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba states, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the commander made the disclosure while presenting the recovered weapons to newsmen in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital.

He said: “We recovered 45 assorted rifles and 701 assorted ammunition which includes 1 sub machine gun, 39 locally made rifle, 2 G3 rifle, 3 locally made pistol, 5 G3 rifle magazines, 4 revolver cartridge holders, 100 of 9mm pistol links, 4 revolver cartridge holders rounds, 3 military uniforms, handsets, charms among others."

He continued: “I am presenting the weapons to you to show the success achieved following an intelligence report by Operation Wild Stroke, an intervention force that was established about eight months ago with the mandate to put to an end to the incessant killings by armed herdsmen, militias groups and other criminal elements operating in Nasarawa, Benue and Taraba states.

“We have recovered a lot of weapons, ammunition and arrested suspects in the last eight months.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the Nigerian Army intercepted a container full of weapons on Igunwa Road, Balogun village, in Ogun.

Only the Army and members of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps were reportedly allowed to take charge of the situation.

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army said it had intercepted three trucks loaded with over 300, 000 live cartridges on the Igbogila-Ilara area of Ogun. According to the Army, the drivers and their accomplices, on sighting the troops, abandoned their trucks and fled.
