The All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to make strong political effort ahead of the general elections as the governorship aspirant of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Nafiu Bala Gombe, defected to the APC in Gombe state.
Nigerian Tribune reports that 200 members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Shongom Local Area of the State also defected to the APC.

Naomi Joel Awak who is the state publicity secretary of the APC said the new defectors have increased the popularity of the party in the state and shows it is ready to take over leadership.
The DPP gubernatorial aspirant said he left the party because it had lost focus.
He said: “I withdraw from contesting for the office of Governor of Gombe state which I had earlier indicated interest. I fully lend my support to the candidate of the All progressives Congress in Gombe State, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya.”
The State Chairman of the APC, Mr Nitte Amangal who received the defectors said it shows they were ready to go to the next level.
He described them as bonafide members of the APC with the same rights as other older members adding that the “party now has the stronger force to win the forthcoming elections.”
Meanwhile, the minority leader of Gombe state House of Assembly, Honourable Maigari Jungudo, representing Funakaye north, on Wednesday, January 9, announced his defection from his party, All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jungudo joined the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), immediately after his defection.

The minority leader said he left the APC over the party's unjust treatment of some founding members in the state.
Barely a week ago, no fewer than 2,800 members of the PDP in Madobi, Daura in Katsina state defected to the APC.
