Legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, could make a return to the dugout for the rematch of the 1999 Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

Legit.ng understands that a rematch of the historic encounter staged at Nou Camp, Barcelona, two decades ago has been lined up later this season.

The clash saw United current manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, net an injury time winner to gift his side a famous victory to lift the European title.

Mid 2018, Ferguson recovered from a life-saving surgery to tackle a brain hemorrhage, and has since occasionally been seen in the stands to cheer his former side.

The former Scottish tactician is understood to be keen take part in the event should his health allow.

Both United and Bayern Munich will bring all 22 players into action, with legend stars including Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and Paul Scholes expected to feature.

According to a UK Sun report, the Red Devils want the charity match to take place on May 26, precisely twenty years.

However, it remains to be seen if Solskjaer will take part in the event given his current position at the Old Trafford, but a club source confirmed the Norwegian could turn out.

"Bringing the two teams back together for such a great cause was never going to be easy but it appears everyone was up for it," a club source told the UK Sun.

Be that as it may, the match could present a fitting farewell to Solskjaer should he not land the United job on a permanent basis.

The event seeks to raise money for the Manchester United Foundation charity.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Manchester United star Paul Pogba has jetted off to Dubai to team up with the rest of Red Devils squad at their warm-weather training base.

According to a UK Metro report, the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer tutored-side headed to United Arab Emirates after Saturday’s FA Cup third round win over Reading, without Pogba and the pair of Fred and Matteo Darmian.
