"I love Messi with all my heart.

"They want to make him a leader but he isn't able to do that because he's going to be in his sporting world and with his family,'' Maradona told Argentine newspaper 'Olé' according to UK Mirror.

Last year after Argentina's poor show at the 2018 World Cup, Diego Maradona slammed Lionel Messi claiming that he does not play for Argentina the way he plays for Barcelona.

He also made it clear that it would be a waste of time trying to turn Lionel Messi to a leader because he goes to toilet 20 times before a match.

Maradona stressed that he will not invite Lionel Messi to the national team if he should finds his way back to handle his country's senior men team.

Lionel Messi has won everything at Barcelona, but he is yet to win the World Cup with the national team and he was also disappointed with how France sent his country out at Russia 2018.

Previously, Legit.ng had reported how Argentina FA made it clear that they will not give any player the No 10 jersey in their hopes of convincing Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi to make a return to international duty.

Lionel Messi is yet to announce his international retirement but the forward told the FA that he wants to be excused from playing for the national team for some time.

He made this known after the 2018 FIFA World Cup where Argentina were sent out of the tournament by France in the round of 16.
