Tottenham Hotspur are one leg through to the final of this season's EFL Cup final after beating Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday night.

Harry Kane scored the only goal that handed his side the victory after normal regulation period through the spot kick.

The goal brought Kane's goal tally to all competition to 19 in all competitions this campaign as all efforts for the Blues to turn the able around proved unfruitful.

Just seven minutes after the hosts took the lead in the game, Brazil winger Willian combined well with Ross Barkley in the 34th minute but all their efforts were unfruitful.

Chelsea twice hit the woodwork through Kante and Hudson Odoi as both teams continued to press for goals in the remainder of the game but the first half goal sealed the triumph for the Lilywhites.

Spurs will however travel to the Stamford Bridge later this month for the second leg of this fixture as they hope to win their very first title since 2008.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Maurizio Sarri aimed a dig at Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino claiming the Argentine manager must win a trophy in appreciation to the clubs investment.

According to a UK Telegraph report, Pochettino has now come out to dismiss the Italians comments, insisting such claims are laughable.

Sarri, who joined Chelsea six months ago, stressed managers such as Pochettino alongside the pair of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, have spent more time with their respective clubs, but Pochettino was quick to point out that to Spurs stadium project remain a huge financial disadvantage.
