The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has suffered another huge defection as its legal adviser in Sokoto state, Alhaji Nasiru Sahabi Tambuwal has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Nigerian Tribune, the defection was announced in Dange town, headquarters of Dange/Shuni local government during the campaigns for the 2019 general elections.
Other defectors include a former special assistant to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Alhaji Yaro Illelar-Gajara, PDP woman leader in Tambuwal local government, Hajiya A’in Sokoto, former chairman, Matawalle G-23, Alhaji Hamza Yeriman Shuni, among others.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, January 7, formally received various members of the PDP’s support groups from the northeast who defected to the APC.
Receiving delegation of the northeast political stakeholders including the defectors led by Umar Bukar Bolori, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, President Buhari commended them for their decision and welcomed them to the APC.
He said he was not surprised by their defections because a good majority of the people in the northeast was traditionally APC members and supporters.
Buhari thanked the defectors for demonstrating their support and love to him and the APC. He urged them not to relent in their efforts aimed at ensuring electoral victory for the APC in the forthcoming general elections.

Also on the same day, no fewer than 2,800 members of the PDP in Madobi, Daura in Katsina state defected to the APC.
The defectors were received into the APC fold in Madobi village by the Daura local government party chairman, Alhaji Sani Altine-Daura.
