A host of Manchester United stars reportedly want the club to hire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as permanent manager at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer is currently managing the club on interim basis, taking over from Jose Mourinho who was sacked in December 2018 after recording a series of poor results.

According to a UK Metro report citing the Mirror, a section of United players would be happy if Solskjaer is confirmed as full-time boss.

United board is understood to have launched a search for Mourinho's permanent replacement, with reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspurs boss, Mauricio Pochettino is the club's top choice.

Former Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, is also said to be in the frame to take over at Old Trafford.

Since assuming his position as care-taker manager, Solskjaer has successfully guided the Red Devils to five straight wins, and appears to have breathed new life into Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.

Reports in the UK contend it is United's forward department in particular who want the Norwegian tactician beyond the ongoing season.

Lukaku, for instance has not been short of praise for Solskjaer, disclosing the former Molde boss has played an integral part toward's the rediscovery of his goal-scoring form.

On his part, Solskjaer has not hid his desire to become his former club's full-time head coach.

His real test will come this weekend when the Red Devils battle Tottenham Hotspurs at Wembley stadium in a Premier League clash.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Premier League giants Manchester United appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjær as their new manager until the end of the ongoing 2018/19 Premier League season.

The 45-year-old Norwegian football manager replaces former manager Jose Mourinho who was thrown out of the club because of poor results.

He was joined by Mike Phelan as first-team coach, together with Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna this season at Old Trafford.
