Kogi West PDP rallies behind Melaye, demands his immediate release

- The Kogi West chapter of the PDP has called for the immediate release of Senator Dino Melaye by the Police

- The party described the detention of Melaye as an “unabated intimidation”

- According to the PDP, Melaye would be returned to the Senate whether he campaigns or not

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi state has called on the Nigeria Police Force to immediately release the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye.

The party during an emergency meeting held at the Iyah-Gbede residence of General David Jemibewon (rtd.) described the detention of Melaye as an “unabated intimidation”.

Guardian reports that the PDP in a statement signed by the chairman of the Kogi West, Taiwo Kola-Ojo, said Melaye would be returned to the Senate whether he campaigns or not.

According to Kola-Ojo, the same way Melaye's recall exercise was 'killed' by the people, his incapacitation during the period notwithstanding will be made void.

He also asked the people of Kogi West to resist every action by the ruling party and vote massively for the detained senator.

Kola-Ojo described Melaye's detention as “one of the dubious tactics against the PDP across the country,” adding that “it is medicine after death.”

“The occupation of the residence, inhuman evacuation and the ultimate incarceration of Senator Dino Melaye by the Nigerian police in cahoots with the APC governments at the national level and Kogi state is cowardly, retrogressive, repressive and persecuted," Kola-Ojo said.
