- Nigerians have been warned to leave the INEC's new head of the adhoc committee on presidential election collation centre, Amina Zakari alone
- Issuing a warning, her family members said allegation that Zakari has a blood tie with President Buhari is a blatant lie
- According to the Zakari family, the outrage which followed Amina's appointment across the country is a coalesce campaign of calumny orchestrated to pull her down
Family members of the just appointed head of the adhoc committee on presidential election collation centre for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Amina Zakari, has warned Nigerians against continued attack on her.
In a statement released on Monday, January 7, on behalf of the family by Isah Zakari, they described as blatant lies the allegation that Zakari has a blood tie with President Buhari.
Punch reports that Isah appealed to Nigerians to leave Amina alone and allow her concentrate on the job she has been appointed to do.
Isah said: “Enough is enough. Leave our mother, daughter and sister alone to serve the nation as she has done so diligently over her life and career."
He also said that the outrage which followed Amina's appointment across the country is a coalesce campaign of calumny orchestrated to pull her down.
Describing Amina as a patriotic Nigeria who has served the country faithfully and honestly for years without blemish, the family members said they are pained by reports that portray her as working to sabotage INEC’s determination to advance the democratic journey in Nigeria.
“Contrary to the widespread belief, Amina Zakari is not a blood relation of President Muhammadu Buhari. Her mother was from Daura (born and bred in Kano) and she was not Buhari’s sister.
“It’s also true that Buhari’s sister was once married into the family. The union was short-lived and did not produce a child. This all happened well before Mrs. Zakari was born.
“Furthermore, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, the veteran Kano politician who first made the claim that she was born by Buhari’s sister has since recanted. Those who have held on to the claim are therefore either unaware of his recantation or they are simply incapable of letting go their prejudices in the face of facts to the contrary," the statement said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that INEC had said that it has no plan to remove Amina as head of the collation centre committee for the forthcoming polls.
The electoral body also debunked reports that Amina, virtue of her office, will take part in the collation of results after the elections.
Zakari was appointed the head of the committee on Thursday, January 3, when it inaugurated key committees for the polls, a move which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bitterly objected to.
