- Harry Oranezi, who is also the director general of the Atiku/Peter campaign council, said that the occasion was strictly meant to give Obi a warm reception

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied claims that Atiku Abubakar intentionally turned down invitation to the reception held for his running mate, Peter Obi in Awka, the Anambra state capital.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Harry Oranezi, who is also the director general of the Atiku/Peter campaign council, in defence of the opposition's flag bearer explained that Atiku was not factored into the occasion's schedule, Guardian reports.

Oranezi stated that the event was organised for PDP chieftains, party members and supporters resident in the state. He also revealed that the programme was meant to give Obi a warm reception after his appointment as Atiku's running mate.

He said: “The event was an Anambra State affair, meant for some sons and daughters, including well-wishers from outside the state to celebrate with us.”

Moreover, supporting Oranezi's position, the chairman of Atiku/Obi presidential council, Okoli Akarika, a former commissioner for lands, said the event was strictly to welcome and honour the running mate for PDP.

Akarika also said that the organisers used the event to showcase other candidates from Anambra who are running for different positions, from state to federal levels.

The former commissioner stressed that the reception was to further display the Igbo people that only the party, unlike the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has their interest at heart.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Reverend Father Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry had begged for forgiveness and had apologised to Obi for his comments when the PDP presidential running mate visited his church.

Mbaka, in a viral video, had tried to extract monetary commitment from the vice-presidential candidate of the PDP.

In his earlier reaction to the video, Mbaka said God deserves money, arguing that some people were ingrate despite the fact that they were blessed after attending his programme.
