Guardiola claims De Bruyne will undergo late fitness test ahead of Liverpool clash

- Kevin De Bruyne is fighting to be fit for City's clash against Liverpool after sustaining a 'slight knock' in training

- The Belgian has also been complaining of muscle soreness following his return from a six-week knee injury

- He has made just nine appearances this season and has netted just two times

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that Kevin De Bruyne will undergo a late fitness test ahead of Liverpool cracker at the Etihad on Thursday, December 3, 2019.

According to a UK Metro report, the Spaniard also confirmed that the Belgian midfielder is doing ‘much better’ after missing Southampton win with a muscle injury, even as he took active part in City’s training session on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old De Bruyne had played no role for the Premier League defending champions since November 2018.

He suffered a knee ligament injury but was back in the treatment in mid-December after an injury setback.

Speaking on De Bruyne’s availability for Thursday’s top-of-the-table clash against Liverpool, Guardiola is upbeat the Belgium star will be ready to battle the Reds.

“He trained today but tomorrow we need another check in the morning.

“He’s much better,” admitted Guardiola, even as he stressed that Man City keep battling for the Premier League silverware irrespective of the outcome on Thursday night.

“The reality is clear. We are seven points down,” he said.

“This will be the second game of the second leg so there are a lot of points to play for. It is a big opportunity for us to reduce the gap.

“Our focus is the same. Everybody has been asking what will happen if we lose.

“We are going to try to make our game, to be there and be fighting for the Premier League for as far as possible,” the highly-experienced football tactician submitted.

The 27-year-old picked up a slight knock in training that has seen him miss Man City’s clash against Southampton last weekend.
