Breaking: Nigeria’s former president Shehu Shagari dies at 93

Nigeria's first executive president Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, is dead.

His grandson, Bello Shagari, confirmed that the president in the second republic, from 1979 to 1983, died at the National Hospital, Abuja, on Friday, December 28, at the age of 93 in a tweet.

“I regret announcing the death of my grandfather, H.E Alhaji Shehu Shagari, who died right now after brief illness at the National hospital, Abuja,” he tweeted.

In a previous report by Legit.ng, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, December 27, offered condolences over the death of Alhaji Sanda Kaita, Magajin Rogo of Katsina, his former teacher and a retired school administrator.

The president’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja, said the president condoled with the Emir of Katsina, the government and people of the state over the demise of Kaita.
