Real Madrid star Luka Modric has been named Balkan Athlete of the Year just days after winning the Croatian Player of the Year accolade.
The 33-year-old becomes the second footballer to win the prize after former Bulgarian star Hristo Stoichkov won it 1994.
The Ballon d'Or winner won the Champions League and the Club World Cup with Real Madrid as well as helping Croatia reach the World Cup final in Russia.
The ex-Tottenham star was awarded the tournament's Golden Ball Award to mark his contribution as the best overall player at the World Cup.
Modric, got 75 points in the 46th poll which was organised by Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), ahead Serbia's world No 1 tennis star Novak Djokovic, who topped the annual poll five times in a row between 2011 and 2015.
Modric was in his home country Zagreb to receive his prize following a survey carried out by Sportske Novosti which took votes from 322 of the country's journalists.

"This is a huge honour. I'd like to congratulate all the other athletes on their successes and efforts," Modric said
"Family is the most important thing in the world to me because they're always by my side, especially at the most difficult times, so my special thanks are reserved for them".
The Balkan award is the latest Modric has added to his 2018 collection, others includes; the Ballon d'Or, FIFA's The Best Award 2018 and the UEFA Men's Player of the Year for the 2017/18 season.

Meanwhile, Legit,ng had earlier reported that Real Madrid star Luka Modric is now expected to end the year 2018 as one the most successful players after being named as the Croatian sportsman of the year.
