The Zamfara state governor, Abdulaziz Yari, says he has never compromised the issue of security of lives and property in the state.

He made the comment at a news conference in Gusau, shortly after his return to the state, Daily Trust reports.

Legit.ng gathers that Yari said no responsible government would fold it arms and watch its people being killed.

He said a security meeting had been held with different stakeholders in order to fine-tune new strategies on how best to deal with the situation; adding that they are working tirelessly to ensure that peace returns to Zamfara.

Yari further spoke on the recent violence in Tsafe local government area, saying he would not want to give it a political colouration. He said the matter would be dealt with, politically, if investigations reveal that it had a political inclination.

He added: “Unless people changed their attitude, we may not see the end of these problems. In the situation whereby a son will invite kidnappers to abduct his own biological father, then what will authorities do about it?"

Yari said those causing the killings to be escalated are in the affected communities and that authorities are helpless about the situation.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Governor Abdulaziz Yari threw his weight behind the call by some Nigerians on President Muhammadu Buhari to declare a ‘state of emergency’ on Zamfara over security issues.

While addressing newsmen at a press briefing, Yari said: “I am also in support of the declaration of state of emergency if it will save the lives of people of the state.”
