President Muhammadu Buhari has been endorsed for the 2019 presidential election by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
The group's national president, Muhammadu Kirowa, made the announcement at its 2018 annual general meeting, The Cable reports.
Legit.ng recalls that the association previously said it had not yet decided who to support between Buhari and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. Both men are Fulani even though Atiku is from Adamawa and Buhari is from Katsina.
According to Kirowa, the group decided to unanimously endorse Buhari because of the “numerous achievements recorded by his administration in the areas of infrastructural development, youth employment and security.”
Hence, he called on all the association's leaders and members to mobilise support and ensure that Buhari is re-elected.
On his part, the association's national secretary, Baba Ngelzarma, lauded the federal government for the “robust measures taken by the military in eliminating cattle banditry and wanton killing of herdsmen and farmers.”
He said MACBAN would continue to collaborate with the security agencies in fishing out bad eggs, saying “as a credible organisation we do not and will not condone criminality in whatever form by our members."
Ngelzarma continued: “MACBAN pledges its loyalty and support to President Buhari for his laudable efforts of uniting the country, infrastructural growth of the nation and transforming the economic life of citizens for posterity.
“We appreciate government’s programmes of transforming the social lives of Nigerians through empowerment, agricultural development particularly the livestock sub-sector, where pilot programmes of developing water and pasture in long neglected grazing reserves has commenced.”
Ngelzarma also implored officials of the association to be law abiding and avoid frictions and inciting utterances.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the national coordinator of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Benue state, Alhaji Garus Gololo, said that if elected, Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the PDP, would create division in the country.
Gololo made the comment in response to a statement by Atiku's spokesperson, Phrank Shuaibu, that there would be more killings of farmers by suspected Fulani herdsmen if President Muhammadu Buhari is re-elected in 2019.
He pointed out that it was not only Fulani herdsmen that had issues with farmers in Nigeria and it was wrong for Atiku's spokesman to have made such an inciting statement.
