It was a loss for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto state on Thursday, December 27, as a former aide to Governor Aminu Tambuwal reportedly left and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) with at least 50,000 others.

Daily Sun reports that those who defected to the APC also included a former chairman of Silame local government, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Umar Dantama, a former State House of Assembly aspirants of the party in 2015, as well as several other officials.

The report said the APC leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, who represents Sokoto North at the National Assembly, welcomed the defectors and promised that they would be treated fairly.

“More ever, in a matter of weeks , the APC will take over the state, while President Muhammadu Buhari including all the party’s candidates, at all levels, would be massively voted by Nigerians,” he said while adding that President Muhammadu Buhari “he will soon visit the state, with a view to extend same to the people of the state.”

A former governor of the state and APC gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu, also said: “All the PDP members who initially went astray had now came back to the right path.”
