Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante is now forced to relinquish his title after being awarded the prize for 2017.

Legit.ng recalls that PSG star Kylian Mbappe emerged winner of the inaugural Kopa Trophy earlier this month.

The attacker pulled off stiff competition from Christian Pulisic and Roma winger Kluivert to win the maiden edition of the award.

It is the U-21 version of the Ballon d'Or to recognise players in that category after helping PSG win the Ligue 1 title in his first season at the club, before scoring four times for France as Les Bleus won the World Cup for a second time at Russia.

Fellow Ligue 1 player Houssem Aouar of Lyon, as well as Serie A starlets Gianluigi Donnarumma and Patrick Cutrone were all nominated for the award.
