6-year-old twins get married in Thailand to avoid bad luck

6-years-old twins got married in a Buddhist ceremony because their parents thought they were "lovers in past lives".

The young boy, nicknamed Guitar, and his sister, Kiwi, were born in September 2012 and their parents immediately knew they would have to get married to secure their future against bad luck.

Their dad Amornsan Sunthorn Malirat, 31, and mum, Phacharaporn, 30, arranged the ceremony worth thousands of pounds so their kids will have "success".

Buddhists believe that male and female twins have ‘karma’ from relationships in a previous life and have been re-born together because the debt has not been settled.

Amornsan said, according to Mail Online: "We believe that both the children used to be a partners in the past life. This is a belief we have inherited from ancient people.

"[We thought] we must arrange a wedding for the two twins as a solution to the issues they had before they were re-born. If they are married, they will live healthy and successful lives and not be sick."

The children’s mother, Phacharaporn, said: "they were both so sweet during their wedding. They will be the best of friends for the rest of their lives. They’ll be able to find their own husband or wife when their older. But this ceremony will always be important for them."

A traditional ceremony featured a street procession followed by a game where the groom had to pass through nine ‘gates’ before he could meet the bride.

The young boy then had to pay a dowry of 200,000 baht in cash and gold worth the equivalent of £1,000 before marrying her.

Although they are considered husband and wife in line with local customs, the ceremony is not legally binding.

They will still be able to seek their own partners when they are grown up.

This is not the first time such a thing is happening in Thailand. In 2016, 3-years-old brother and sister Teekatat and Tawisa Hiranmekawanit tied the knot in the traditional ceremony in Ang Thong province in central Thailand.

Their parents claim that the twins had been soul mates in a past life but were separated by a terrible tragedy.

They add that the children were reincarnated together as twins and to ward off 'bad luck' they have to shows the 'angels' that they are in love and want to be together forever.
