- Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) said it has the assurance that there would not be crisis during 2019 election
- Reverend Samson Ayokunle, the president of CAN, gave the assurance, calling for respect for the election outcome
- The body also called on the security operatives not to be used in rigging during the election
Reverend Samson Ayokunle, the president of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) has said the religious body has a total assurance that there would not be crisis in the 2019 general elections across the country.
In a report available in The Punch, Ayokunle said this at the service of carols and lessons, organised by the Ondo state government on Friday, December 21.
Legit.ng gathers that the cleric, however, advised the stakeholders to put hands on decks for the peaceful conduct of the election.
He said: "The apprehension before 2015 general election was much higher than this, even the international community said Nigeria would scatter after the election but God took control.
“So for me whatever the devil may be doing, Nigeria would survive the next election. The politicians are very desperate to win the election but it would only take the person with a heart of God to win.
“We have to appeal to the police to respect the uniform they are wearing, they should not involve in rigging, so also the electoral umpire, they have to play the game according to the rule, they should not manipulate the result in favour of any candidate.”
Also at the event is the governor of Ondo state, Rotimi Akeredolu, who briefed the participants on the security measures taken to curb kidnapping in the state.
He said: “I want to assure our people that we have taken care of kidnapping in this state. We have taken some measure. We are ready to confront them. Kidnapping will be a thing of the past in Ondo state and our people would enjoy the Christmas season."
