2023 presidency: Nigeria can only be successful if Igbo leads - Ohanaeze Ndigbo

- Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, has reacted to an alleged plan to deny it the 2023 presidency

- In a statement, the group insisted that Nigeria will continue to wallow in poverty and depression if Igbo people are not elected leaders

- It also added that there is nothing successful the country can do without its cooperation and support

Following a statement made by the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, on the 2023 presidency and the chance of the southwest region, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural body, has reacted, adding that Nigeria can only move forward with Igbo as president.

The Punch reports that on Sunday, December 23, the group made its position known on 2023 presidency and insisted the country will continue to wallow in the cesspool of “abject socio-political, economic and developmental blindness until an Igbo man becomes the president.”

Legit.ng gathers that Uche Achi-Okpaga, the spokesperson of the group, also added that there is nothing successful Nigeria can do without the cooperation of Igbo.

Achi-Okpaga said: “I do not expect Prof. Osinbajo to say a different thing. The 2023 Yoruba presidency is a plot presumably well hatched and efforts are being exerted to win it successfully as dramatised in the public pronouncements earlier by Fashola and now the bleeding utterances of Osinbajo.

“However, l am dumbfounded that these are men that believe in the existence of God but, perhaps unwittingly, do not believe in the God factor.

“The Igbo are the descendants of King David, the man after God’s heart. Anything you do in Nigeria without the active cooperation and participation of the lgbo would always crumble as exemplified in the present administration of PMB. The Igbo are to Nigeria what Israel is to the world today."

Highlighting the impacts of Igbo players on the country's politics and economy, the spokesperson boasted that Nigeria cannot record success without the inputs of the Igbo people.

He said: “Take my word today, until an Igbo man leads, Nigeria will continue to wallow in abject socio-political, economic and developmental blindness. The late Professor Dora Akunyili was brought in and she did justice to NAFDAC’s perennial, protracted and seemingly intractable impasse.

“Professor Chukwuma Soludo was brought in and he brought sanity into the banking system. Today, Nigerians can deposit their money and go to sleep with their eyes closed.

“Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was brought in and she spearheaded debt relief for Nigeria (already dismantled by the present administration.)

“You can attest to how Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, as minister of health, clinically dealt with the Ebola virus under Goodluck Jonathan.

“The list is endless. Simply put, the Igbo will lead Nigeria when the Lord decrees it, all clandestine plots notwithstanding.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had said Nigerians could not take Muhammadu Buhari's presidency seriously anymore because All Progressives Congress (APC) had been trying to lure voters by promising their tribe presidency in 2023.

In a statement signed by spokesman of the PDP presidential campaign council, Kassim Afegbua, Atiku said Nigerians could no longer take APC or the Buhari presidency serious because of consistent lies.
