Messi scores as Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 2-0 in La Liga clash

Ousmane Dembele and Lionel Messi netted the goals as Barcelona claimed a 2-0 win over Celta Vigo in La Liga at the Camp Nou on Saturday, December 22, 2018.

The performance saw Barcelona open a three-point lead over second-placed Atletico Madrid at the summit of the La Liga log as the Ernesto Valverde tutored-side go into the New Year as Spanish League leaders.

However, before the half-time break, Messi collected an excellent pass from Jordi Alba and executed a perfect finish to send Barcelona 2-0 up going into the break

During the second stanza, Celta lost Aspas to an injury and could not do much with the top scorer out.

Suarez could not make it 3-0 ahead for Barca on the 60th minute as his effort missed target.

The home side had other chances as the game progressed but the goals refused to come.

10 minutes from time Fran Beltran had a chance for Celta but he could not convert with Suarez on his trail.

At the blast of the final whistle it ended 2-0 with Barcelona ending the year with a win.

Meanwhile, previously had reported that Barcelona cruised to a 5-0 victory over Levante in Sunday's Spanish League encounter at the Ciutat de Valencia.

Luis Suarez led the way for the Catalans after netting the opener in the 35th minute and just two minutes before the end of first half, Lionel Messi doubled their lead.
