- As Nigerians prepare for the 2019 elections, the Arewa Consultative Forum has said it would remain neutral and non-partisan
- According to the group, would not align itself with any political party or candidate ahead of the polls
- The forum insisted that its focus is promoting peace, unity and interest of the northern region
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said that it will not endorse any particular presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.
The acting chairman of the forum, Musa Kwande, stated this on Thursday, December 20, when he received the presidential candidate of the Peoples Trust Party (PT), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, at the ACF national headquarters in Kaduna state.
He insisted that the forum would not align itself with any political party or candidate ahead of the polls, saying it would be totally unfair to endorse any candidate or support any political party since the majority of the contestants were from the north and also sons of the region.
Kwande said rather than supporting any candidate or political party, the body would continue to remain neutral and non-partisan but focus on promoting peace, unity and interest of the northern region.
The ACF told the PT candidate that Nigeria’s democratic terrain at the moment required an individual who has an articulate and thorough blueprint that would lift the country to be among the comity of great nations.
In his remarks, Hashim assured Kwande and the ACF that he would work towards restoring the country in its rightful place of development if elected as president. He also promised to revamp the economy, unite the people, restore the security of lives and property of citizens, and create millions of jobs for the youths, among others.
Meanwhile, a report seen by Legit.ng says there are early warning signs of violence ahead of the elections as well as increase in the purchase of Permanent Voter Card (PVCs) amongst others.
The report was released by elections observer group, YIAGA Africa, in its second pre-election observation report ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The election observer group has been conducting pre-election observation in the 774 local government areas of Nigeria.
